(LOT 173)
1907 Detroit Tigers Team Real Photo Postcard Postmarked Sep. 20 1907 with a Rookie Ty Cobb PSA Authentic

Presented here is a spectacular 1907 Detroit Tigers Team real photo postcard that includes a rookie-era Ty Cobb. Most significantly, its verso includes a "SEP 20, 1907" postmark, irrefutably dating it as one of the Georgia Peach's true inaugural cards! One of only seven PSA encapsulated examples, it is one of the few known specimens that actually includes the critical 1907 postmark. From 1907 through 1909, the Detroit Tigers captured three consecutive AL pennants, led by the incomparable Tyrus Raymond Cobb and fellow Hall of Famers Sam Crawford and Hughie Jennings (player/manager). This Cooperstown-worthy offering includes a rookie-era Ty Cobb image, who had broken into the major leagues with the Detroit club in 1905.

The Georgia Peach claimed his inaugural batting championship in 1907 (the same year this imposing postcard was issued) and never looked back, winning an unfathomable 12 batting titles in 13 seasons, including an amazing nine consecutive titles from 1907 to 1915. The postcard reveals Ty Cobb in the second row with his hands draped over his knees (3rd from the left), with Hughie Jennings sitting in the center front row and Sam Crawford standing in the back row (3rd from the left). This sepia tone marvel reveals outstanding clarity and fine resolution, with the obverse side miraculously eluding any notable surface flaws. The bold white captions "DETROIT'S" and "1907" are affixed along the lower edge, and the PSA Authentic assessment is solely based on the flipside's momentous September 20, 1907 postmark and accompanying written message. A 115-year-old cardboard treasure, it depicts a youthful Ty Cobb rookie-era image at a time when this fiery star was embarking on a career for the ages!
