(LOT 786)
T206 Carolina Brights Christy Mathewson "Dark Cap" (PSA 3)

A myriad of tobacco enthusiasts continue their focus on assembling many of the 39 tobacco brand back combinations. One of the tougher cigarette brands to find is the "Carolina Brights" back, with many T206 experts listing it as one of the top 10 scarcest tobacco brand backs (excluding the Ty Cobb Tobacco Back). Locating a Carolina Brights example is tough enough, let alone finding one with the immortal Christy Mathewson's hallowed image on its flipside! With that in mind, presented here is an outstanding T206 Carolina Brights specimen of Christy Mathewson's "Dark Cap" variation in an eye pleasing PSA 3 holder.

Seems infinite, including 13 twenty-win seasons, four of which the seemingly "un-hittable" right-hander posted 30+ wins! Yet for all his accomplishments, his defining moment came in the 1905 Fall Classic when he posted three consecutive shutouts against Connie Mack's Athletics to claim the Giant's first 20th century world championship! Likewise, this ultra-obscure offering provides championship collectability via the super eye pleasing Carl Horner Christy Mathewson "hands at chest" pose that stands as one of the most iconic poses from the "dead-ball" era.

Fine centering, a bright blue background, no glaring surface flaws all contribute to the superb eye appeal. The grade is primarily due to even corner wear, and the critical Carolina Brights ad-back is relatively clean. Unquestionably residing as one of "Big Six's" rarest issued cards.

Catalog correction POP status, one of two in the PSA 3 holder with one grading higher.
