(LOT 622)
1930's George Burke Type I Jimmie Foxx Original Photo Signed by Foxx! - Measures Approx. 8" x 10" - Encapsulated by PSA ; Signature PSA Authenticated Grade 9 MINT & Type I Designation

Jimmie Foxx will always be considered one of the greatest right-handed hitters in baseball history (along with Hornsby & Aaron); finishing his magnificent career with the Boston Red Sox after playing 11 seasons with Connie Mack's Athletics. Hall of Famer Jimmie Foxx tested the limits of baseball's fences with his sheer power that could equally match or surpass any 21st century steroid user. Starting his career in 1925 with the Philadelphia Athletics, Foxx steadily increased his at-bats each year until he finally played his first full season in 1929. It was that fateful 1929 season that "The Beast", Foxx's common nickname, broke out of his cage with 33 home runs, 118 R.B.I.'s and a sensational .354 batting average. He would eventually end his incredible career with 534 round-trippers, knocking in 100 or more runs an incredible 13 consecutive seasons from 1929 thru 1941 with 6 of those seasons with the Red Sox (1936-1941).

His uncanny power placed fear in the hearts of most of his opposing pitchers, and he walloped 30 or more home runs in 12 consecutive seasons including two seasons in which he hit 58 and 50 dingers! For all these reasons, collectors pursue his highly coveted artifacts including cards, autographs and original photos, justifying why this virtually miraculous c.1930s 8" x 10" autographed George Burke Type I photo resides as one of the most desirable Foxx collectibles. Encapsulated and authenticated by PSA (both the autograph & Type 1 photo status), the image depicts "Double X" beginning his mighty swing.

The extremely bold blue fountain signature reads: "To Joe, you are a real fellow, the best to you always - Jimmie" Foxx", reflecting 8/9 autograph strength and situated directly beneath Foxx's muscular right arm. Donning his period Boston Red Sox uniform, cap, uniform and baseball socks, the barrel-chested power hitter is about to unleash his mammoth swing, undoubtedly wrecking havoc against another overmatched hurler.

The overall aesthetics are absolutely breathtaking, with the Athletics Hall of Famer depicting superior contrast and "jaw dropping" crystal clear clarity. No obtrusive flaws are evident, and the relatively clean verso includes the critical "GEO. BURKE 847 BELMONT AVE. CHICAGO" trademark stamp, the final compliment for one of the finest Jimmie Foxx signed images extant. Jimmie Foxx' unfathomable batting statistics justify his elite standing in our National Pastime's glorious history, with this world-class signed Burke photo the perfect testament for his virtually unparalleled stature! -PSA Type I/PSA 9 MINT Authentication for Jimmie Foxx Autograph
