(LOT 621)
1927 Underwood & Underwood Type I Babe Ruth World Series Original Photo - "Ruth Hits a HR in Game 3 at Yankee Stadium"! - Measures Approx. 8" x 10" - PSA Encapsulated Type I

The fabled 1927 Yankee season will forever be associated with arguably "the greatest team in baseball history", Babe Ruth's 60 home runs, and the Yankees "Murderer's Row" of Ruth, Gehrig, Lazerri, Meusel and Combs. The Yankees would win a staggering 110 games against only 44 loses, eventually claiming their second world championship by sweeping the Pirates in an uncontested four games. Presented here just happens to be an extraordinary Babe Ruth batting image in Game 3 at Yankee Stadium from that legendary Fall Classic; portraying the "Sultan of Swat" swatting a 3-run homer in the 6th inning.

On October 7, 1927 before nearly 61,000 faithful fans, the Yankees were clinging to a 2-0 lead as they batted in the bottom of the 6th against Pirates hurler Lee Meadows. The Bronx Bombers would end any suspense of the game's outcome by scoring 6 runs to break the game wide open, spearheaded by Ruth's mighty 3-run dinger and eventually winning the game 8-1 behind the solid pitching of Herb Pennock. The next game would see the Yankees sweep the Pirates in four games, staking a claim as the greatest team in baseball history. Dubbed an original photo by PSA via its Type I encapsulation, this remarkable image captures Ruth completing his mighty swing as he gazes towards the heavens to watch his mammoth blast sail towards the farthest confines of Yankee Stadium.

Measuring approximately 8" x 10", the classic Underwood & Underwood image reveals incredible contrast & resolution, with only some stray creases along the borders. There is one noticeable circular crease residing approximately halfway up the photo along the right border, somewhat protruding into the actual illustration. Fortunately, this flaw does not impede on the significant Babe Ruth central image, with the awe-inspiring Ruthian batting pose remaining virtually unscathed. The verso reveals the prestigious "Underwood & Underwood" stamp and the critical caption that irrefutably defines the illustration as Ruth's 6th inning home run in game#3 at Yankee Stadium.

A truly remarkable "Sultan of Swat" offering, it links the collector back to a definitive moment of that legendary 1927 World Series when Babe Ruth and his Yankee teammates turned the baseball world "upside-down" via their unparalleled performance! - PSA Type I
