"Now here comes Mantle. He's grounded to short, he's walked, he's doubled to right. Facing 38-year old Barney Schultz... the big Yankee crowd now roaring for some action. There's a high drive... hit to deep right... and forget about it... it is gone... the ballgame's over". "Mantle has just broken a World Series record. He now has 16 World Series home runs. Him and Babe Ruth were tied with 15 apiece" - Curt Gowdy
Such were the legendary words uttered by renowned sportscaster Curt Gowdy when in the bottom of the ninth in Game#3 of the 1964 World Series, the iconic Mickey Mantle blasted a walk-off home run deep into the right-field seats at Yankee Stadium to defeat the Cardinals and veteran knuckleball artist Barney Schultz 2-1. Not only did Mantle win the game, but his long round tripper qualified as his 16th World Series home run, passing the immortal Babe Ruth's previous Fall Classic record of 15! Throughout his career, "The Mick" had a fleer for hitting monumental World Series home runs including a hallowed blast in game 5 of the 1956 World Series that provided Don Larsen all the support he would need in his unparalleled "Perfect Game".
It is no secret that Mantle's cardboard artifacts rule the post-war market, and collectors are now "catching onto" the concept of compiling his World Series Home Run Ticket Stubs. Incredibly, Mantle's 18 homer World Series tally included walloping a long ball in 16 different Fall Classic games (he hammered two home runs in a single game on two different occasions). Therefore, it takes 16 tickets to complete a "Mantle World Series Homer Run", and presented here is one of those amazing PSA encapsulated gatherings. Ranked #8 on the PSA Set Registry with a 2.75 Cumulative G.P.A., this 100% complete 16 ticket stub run captures all of Mantle's long balls, and is one of only TWO "Currently Registered" compilations including ALL 16 tickets!
While this collection includes PSA Grades from "Auth" thru "EX/5", virtually all of the ticket stubs portray bright/fresh aesthetics, with no obtrusive flaws evident on any of the obverse sides. The most notable tickets include: Mantles 1st Series home run (1952/Game#6); the 1952 Yankees Clincher (Game#7); Larsen's iconic perfect game (1956/Game#5); Mantle's 2-homer games (1958/Game#2; 1960/Game#2); The Dodgers Game 7 clincher behind Sandy Koufax's magnificent pitching performance (1963/Game#7); and Mantle's monumental World Series record breaking 16th homer game when he passed the incomparable "Sultan of Swat" (1964/Game#3).
