(LOT 1768)
Multi-Signed 11" x 17" Photo with 170 Signatures from Negro League Players MLI COA

This 11" x 17" black and white photo of the Negro Leagues features the signatures of 170 players, making it one of the most comprehensive signed photos we've ever offered. With striking and bold signatures in Sharpie and blue fine-tip pen, this museum-quality piece is a must-have for serious collectors of Negro League baseball memorabilia. The Negro Leagues emerged after decades of Black players competing independently and barnstorming across the country. The first professional league for Black players, the National Colored Base Ball League, lasted only two weeks in 1887.

However, the Negro National League (NNL) was established in 1920 by Black club owners in Kansas City and thrived until the Great Depression. The Negro American League was founded in 1933, continuing the legacy of organized Black baseball. Notable players from the Negro Leagues include legends like Josh Gibson, Oscar Charleston, and Cool Papa Bell. In 2020, Major League Baseball (MLB) recognized the seven Negro Leagues as major leagues, and by 2024, it officially incorporated their statistics into its record books. This recognition elevates players like Josh Gibson, who now stands as the all-time leader in career batting average, slugging percentage, and OPS, placing them on equal footing with other baseball greats. MLI COA included.
