WHEATIES & DOG FOOD IMAGE!!! After a decade-long absence, Wheaties reentered the baseball card scene in 1951 by featuring athletes on their cereal boxes, creating the 1951 Wheaties Premium photos with stars like Stan Musial, Bob Feller, Yogi Berra, Roy Campanella, and Mickey Mantle. Attributed to General Mills, it's unclear if the set was widely distributed or just a test. Offered is a circa 1952 original rookie-era photograph of Mickey Mantle used for his 1951 Wheaties Premium and 1950 Mascot Dog Food issues. This impressive 7¼" x 9¼" Type 1 image, captured by renowned photographer Don Wingfield at Ebbets Field in 1952, shows the 20-year-old MVP candidate and switch-hitter Mantle posing with his bat swinging right-handed. A faded ballpoint inscription reads, "To Denise – My Best Wishes – a Pal – Mickey Mantle" on the left. The photo remains in good condition with minor paper loss on the left edge and upper left corner, but Mantle's central pose is pristine aside from two pieces of clear tape at the top. Notably, another example sold for over $20,000 in 2023, reflecting its high collectible value.
