(LOT 615)
1915 E106 American Caramel Ty Cobb - With Bat, Facing Front PSA 2 GOOD – POP 3; Only Three PSA Examples Graded Higher!

TYRUS CARAMEL TREASURE!!!... Ty Cobb's iconic "leaning on bat, facing front" pose first presented itself on his 1909 E101 and E102 "Anonymous" candy cards. Thereafter, various caramel manufacturers utilized this exact same image for their popular sets, including the renowned 1915 E106 subjects. Two Georgia Peach subjects were issued in this classic 48-card set, one was the sideways batting E90-1 illustration, with the highly coveted leaning-on-bat image offered here in a super eye-pleasing PSA 2 holder. Rare in any grade, only 10 other examples are listed on the PSA Pop Chart. This scarce offering is one of only three PSA 2 copies, with a meager two examples graded higher! The E106 glossy coated surfaces were susceptible to heavy creasing and cracking, resulting in their extreme condition sensitivity and numerous low-grade specimens. His spellbinding central image is encompassed by an imposing yellow/orange setting, miraculously eluding any serious creasing typically plaguing E106 subjects. Accounting for the assessment are heavily rounded corners, some negligible areas of soiling above Ty's Detroit cap, general surface wear, and some etching along several edges. A relatively clean American Caramel ad back is the final compliment for one of the finest and most aesthetically pleasing E106 Cobb extant!
