1906 Real Photo Postcard Scranton Miners with Moonlight Graham SGC 1 PR – The Sole Example Listed on the Combined SGC & PSA Pop Charts!

MOONLIGHT GRAHAM!!!... Many film critics would argue that "Field of Dreams" stands as one of the most captivating of all baseball movies, highlighted by the appearances of Shoeless Joe Jackson and Archibald "Moonlight" Graham. Indeed, it was Moonlight Graham's quest to ultimately achieve an official MLB at-bat that stole the hearts of millions of enthralled viewers. This possibly unique 1906 real photo postcard of the Scranton Miners just happens to include an extremely rare appearance of Moonlight Graham on any baseball card. The sole example listed on both the SGC and PSA census reports, it includes the ever-elusive image of Graham, standing in the middle row, third from the left.

It was only a season ago that Graham would make his only MLB appearance, when the NY Giants rookie replaced George Browne in right field on June 29, 1905 at Brooklyn's Washington Park in the eighth inning. Sadly for Graham, in the top of the ninth, he would be kneeling in the on-deck circle when Claude Elliot flied out to end the inning, depriving Graham of his only chance at an official MLB plate appearance. Of course, in "Field of Dreams", Moonlight would achieve that sole at-bat in the legendary fictitious game, and this postcard effectively rekindles that cherished film event. The assessment is due to an October 6, 1906 postmark and a notation on the front side reading, "These are the boys that can play ball." Most significantly, no obtrusive surface flaws are evident, with some negligible edge chipping, an upper left corner crease, and general surface wear not compromising the sensational central image.
