(LOT 67)
1958 Topps #47 Roger Maris Rookie PSA 9 MINT

MARIS ROOKIE!!!... When Roger Maris broke into the Majors in 1957 with Cleveland, the Indians had signed a true power hitting star, despite his reluctance to embrace the spotlight. After being traded to the New York Yankees in 1958, little did anyone know that in four years, he would eclipse the seemingly untouchable record of 60 home runs in a single season, set by Babe Ruth in 1927. Roger won the American League MVP in 1960, and in 1961, the slugging right-fielder battled teammate Mickey Mantle for the home run crown down to the wire as he clouted 61 in the final game of the season. But, as Mantle soaked up the fame, Maris was more subdued with an aversion to the attention.

Presented here is one of the finest Roger Maris rookie cards in existence holdered an astonishing 9 MINT by PSA with not a single specimen achieving a higher assessment. Offering immaculate aesthetics with a breathtaking autumn-orange background, Maris leaps from the card in brilliant full-color with a perfectly framed image. Magnificently centered between four blinding white borders with flawless surfaces terminating at razor-sharp corner tips, this highest graded example is a virtual masterpiece and a marvel of collecting superiority. This one is free from flaws some 66 years after its production.
