(LOT 385)
1914 Cracker Jack #52 Zach Wheat PSA 4 VG-EX

BUCK WHEAT!!! Zach Wheat roamed left field in Washington Park II and Ebbets Field for the better part of two decades as a Brooklyn Superbas, Dodger and Robin. Wheat was an incredible all-around player who led the NL seven times in putouts and twice in fielding percentage. He remains second in assists by a left fielder with 231. But his prowess at the plate should not be overlooked, as he led the NL in batting in 1918 hitting .335 and retiring with a .317 career average, still tied for sixth in Dodgers franchise history. Wheat retired 97 years ago and died in 1972, but he still sits atop the Dodgers all-time hits list with 2,804, single (2,038), doubles (464), triples (171) and total bases (4,003), nearly a century later. Offered here is his 1914 Cracker Jack #52 encased 4 VG-EX by PSA. Displaying a bright, bold red background, Wheat is posed delivering a baseball for an assist. It's well-framed with great borders that do present some noticeable soiling but appear reasonably sharp.
