1962 Topps #199 Gaylord Perry Rookie PSA 9 MINT - Highest Graded in the Hobby!

EIGHT TEAMS-TWO CY YOUNGS!!! Despite the rumors that Gaylord Perry was doctoring baseballs from the mound, specifically throwing a spitball, Perry was only ejected once during his 22-year career for doctoring. Perry leaned into the mystique of his reputation for throwing the spitball (outlawed in 1920), authoring a book called Me and the Spitter, and contacting Vaseline for a possible endorsement. However, controversy aside, Gaylord Perry was a hell of a pitcher. He led the league in wins three times, including a 24-win season in 1972 with Cleveland to earn the AL Cy Young Award, and then again in 1978 going 21-6 to capture his second Cy Young, this time with the San Diego Padres. He is the first pitcher to win a Cy Young in each league. Perry retired with 314 wins, 3,534 Ks and a 3.11 ERA. Offered here is a 1962 Topps #199 Gaylord Perry Rookie in PSA 9 MINT holder. This beauty is the highest graded example in the hobby. Brilliant color, sharp borders and free of any flaws. Pack-fresh!
