(LOT 47)
1954 Bowman #66 Ted Williams PSA 8 NM-MT

SCARCE TEDDY BALLGAME!!! One of the most coveted post-WWII cardboard scarcities is the 1954 Bowman #66 Ted Williams subject, believed to have been prematurely withdrawn from the set due to contractual issues. Replaced with Jim Piersall, the #66 Ted Williams is highly coveted, and along with Ted's Wilson Franks issue, it is the most valuable 1950s Williams card. Presented here is an absolutely breathtaking 1954 Bowman Williams in a PSA 8 holder, with PSA's Pop Chart indicating only three specimens have been graded higher! "I would love to walk down the street one day with people passing me, stating there goes the greatest hitter the game has ever seen." Such was the dream of a young Ted Williams, with his passionate goal ultimately becoming a reality for most historians agree that

The Kid surely stands as baseball's premier all-time hitter. The Splendid Splinter not only handled his lumber better than anyone who ever stepped into a batter's box, but served two stints as a fighter pilot in World War II and the Korean War, shooting down 16 enemy aircraft. Therefore, it is both his iconic baseball stature and wartime heroism that led to his legacy as the true embodiment of a national hero. His half-body pose is a strong testament to William's immortality, depicting the finest possible contrast and clarity while being set against a sky-blue background. Relatively fine centering only exhibits a modest partiality towards the left edge between four bright white borders. Pinpoint corners, sharp edging, and virtually flawless surfaces complete this magnificent Thumper keepsake that has realized Memory Lane Auction sales of $26K and $22K the past several years!
