(LOT 17)
1909-11 T206 Ty Cobb Bat Off Shoulder Old Mill PSA 6 EX-MT – POP 2; Only 5 PSA Examples Graded Higher!

LOW-POP OLD MILL COBB!!! Collector infatuation with assembling scarce T206 player/ad-back combos continues to be one of the hobby's most fascinating collecting angles. One of those ever-elusive tobacco subjects is the exalted T206 Ty Cobb Bat Off Shoulder Old Mill keepsake, with this obscure subject presented here in a spectacular PSA 6 EX-MT holder. One of only two PSA encapsulated copies at this plateau, it has been bested by a meager five examples on the illustrious PSA Pop Chart! The T206 Ty Cobb Bat Off Shoulder subject reveals the iconic Georgia Peach, showcasing his classic hands-apart batting grip as he prepares to stroke another one of his amazing 4,189 safeties.

Cobb's T206 cards were issued during a period when the immortal Tyrus was embarking on a career for the ages, ultimately leading to a pinnacle .366 lifetime batting mark as well as leading the AL in batting an unprecedented nine consecutive seasons from 1907 through 1915. During that streak, Cobb would post two straight .400+ campaigns (.419 in 1911; .409 in 1912), and if that wasn't enough, the fiery Cobb would add three more titles to his resume (1917-19) after Tris Speaker bested him in 1916. These remarkable batting feats substantiate his 1936 HOF Charter Member stature, and he is arguably considered our National Pastime's greatest five-tool player.

The card itself reveals an awe-inspiring batting image of the immortal Cobb, ably assisted by a brilliant array of yellow, orange, green and gray hues. Atypically excellent centering only exhibits a negligible partiality towards the left edge between four bright white borders. No glaring surface blemishes are evident on either side, with the upper right corner's modest wear preventing a higher assessment. You can literally feel the legendary Cobb's intensity emanating from his fiery facial expression, with the Motor City superstar being one of the game's greatest all-time competitors. The final superlative is the obscure Old Mill/Factory 25 ad back that seldom surfaces on the flipside of a Cobb Bat Off Shoulder illustration, let alone one that boasts an incredible PSA 6 grade. While recent PSA 6 sales are nonexistent, we duly note that a PSA 8 Bat Off Shoulder Cobb sold for a whopping $210,000 in November 2021. That said, we will let you, the sophisticated T206 collector, ultimately decide what this high-grade Old Mill Cobb is truly worth!
