(LOT 1934)
c.1948 Chief Wahoo Stanford Pottery Bank
WAHOO TABOO!!! Produced by Stanford Pottery, this 1948 Chief Wahoo ceramic bank was sold at Cleveland Stadium in 1948 as the Indians made a run at the American League pennant and ultimately captured the World Series title that had eluded them for 28 years. Though taboo now, as the team is now known as the Guardians, this bank represented an era of popularity in ceramic figures for fans that included banks as well as bobbleheads and more. This 7" Chief Wahoo "gold tooth" bank remains in NM-MT condition with remarkably well-preserved paint and gleaming lacquer with limited visible flaws of tiny scattered chips. Hailing from the era that included Bob Feller, Satchel Paige, Larry Doby, Bob Lemon and Lou Boudreau, this 7" bank really stands tall as the sole survivor. He even outlived his own relevance and name.
