(LOT 814)
1922 E122 American Caramel Tris Speaker Series of 80 PSA 5 EX – POP 1; Highest Graded Example Extant!

SPEAKER POP 1!!! One of the Gray Eagle's rarest cards is this PSA 5 EX 1922 E122 American Caramel POP 1 marvel that stands as the undisputed finest of its kind! Incredibly, of the six total encapsulated Tris Speaker copies on the COMBINED PSA and SGC census reports, its closest peer is a 3 VG specimen, with this uncontested mid-grade Speaker the best of the rest. One of the most condition-sensitive cardboard issues are the 1922 E122s, with PSA listing only 13 cards graded 5 EX for ALL 80 subjects, and only a sole player graded higher (a PSA 6 Walter Johnson). Indeed, mid-grade E122s are virtually impossible to find, let alone one representing one of our National Pastime's greatest all-time center fielders. The exact same pose seen on Speaker's 1921 E121 issue; it reveals the HOF legend completing his classic swing that led to 3,514 safeties and a remarkable .345 lifetime batting average. No glaring flaws are evident, and the image exhibits relatively fine positioning. Unique for the grade, its unparalleled paucity level is synonymous with Speaker's remarkable center field play, leading to this bona fide immortal tallying the most outfield assists in baseball history!
