(LOT 508)
1935 Goudey 4-in-1 #4A Babe Ruth SGC 4 VG-EX

THE BABE'S FINAL CARD!!! Babe Ruth's last mainstream card distributed during his playing days is the rather elusive 1935 Goudey 4-in-1 subject, with this SGC 4 VG-EX #4A offering the sole example at this desirable mid-grade plateau and only a single SGC 4.5 specimen graded higher! Ruth's final 1935 campaign would be spent with the Boston Braves, with the Bambino ending his career in the city that first opened its doors to this unparalleled icon some 21 years earlier in 1914. On June 2, 1935, the Babe would finally call it quits, after hitting his final three MLB homers only a week earlier (May 25th) in a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Forbes Field. Atypically, the Sultan of Swat shares this particular subject with fellow 1935 Braves teammates McManus, Maranville, and Brandt. A superb-looking card, its fine centering, bright hues, and relatively clean surfaces justify the SGC grade.
