(LOT 238)
c.1950s Mickey Mantle and Stan Musial Wonder Bread Advertising Sign - Measures Approx. 10-5/8" x 14-5/8"

MANTLE & MUSIAL WONDER BREAD!!!... the early to mid-1950s, our National Pastime's four greatest players included Ted Willimas, Willie Mays, Stan Musial and super icon Mickey Charles Mantle. Unequivocally popular with millions of fans, various manufacturers utilized their hallowed images to promote their company's brand. Such was the case for this absolutely breathtaking circa 1950s Wonder Bread advertising cardboard sign that portrays imposing portrait images for both the Commerce Comet and Stan "The Man" Musial! The Mick's supernatural power already having produced a prolific number of tape-measure homers had taken the Big Apple by storm, and the St. Louis Cardinals consistent NL batting champion was the pride of Mound City. Therefore, it comes as little surprise that the Wonder Bread Company chose those superstars to endorse their unparalleled bread product, which some 70 years later remains the benchmark for all their peers. Measuring approximately 10-5/8" x 14-5/8", this restoration-free offering reveals brilliant yellow, blue and orange colors that have miraculously retained their original rich hue.

The black and white Mantle and Musial portrait poses are situated in the upper left and right quadrants, respectively, with a resounding image of the classic Wonder Bread loaf positioned in the center. Above the bread loaf is a bold orange caption: "BE A WONDER WINNER", and situated in the bold midnight blue lower border is the following bold white text: "Helps Build Strong Bodies 12 Ways!" There are a number of vertical and horizontal wrinkles/folds, with two of the vertical folds more pronounced on the blank verso. The remaining light wrinkles are less prevalent, as are the two tape strips (possibly factory-issued) situated near the upper and lower right corners, with the sparkling colors superseding these imperfections. Most significantly, to the best of our knowledge, this extraordinary poster has eluded any professional restoration, and we can safely assume it was originally designed to be used as either a store window or counter-top display for maximum promotional purposes. Extremely rare and one of the most visually appealing ad posters we have ever handled, its original features have not been compromised, with Mantle, Musial and Wonder Bread teaming up to form an iconic American trifecta!
