(LOT 17)
1909 Philadelphia Caramel E95 Ty Cobb SGC 3 VG

TYRUS CANDY CARD!!! The Philadelphia Caramel Co. produced a 25-card set in 1909, including a myriad of Hall of Famers, highlighted by Cobb, Wagner, and Mathewson. Like most pre-WWI issues, the most desirable and valuable subject is the immortal Tyrus Raymond Cobb, presented here in an aesthetically pleasing SGC 3 holder. By 1909, the majestic Georgia Peach had already captured two AL batting titles, on his way to claiming an unfathomable nine consecutive titles (1907-1915)!

This E95 marvel provides the visual appeal enthusiasts widely seek for their esteemed collections, and even more rewarding is the unique Ty Cobb portrait pose only available on his E95. Indeed, this is the SOLE issue depicting this rare portrait pose of the Tiger legend, unlike many of Cobb's standard batting images used for various "E" card issues (e.g., E90-1, E101, E102, E106, T206, T216, etc.). The card itself pictures a breathtaking portrait image of the iconic star that favors the left edge, set against a bold cranberry red background. Bright white borders, the lack of any obtrusive surface flaws, uniform corner wear and a completely intact 25-subject checklist are the final superlatives for one of the most coveted of all early 20th century Ty Cobb issues!
