Super Bowl XXIII followed almost the same script, with the Niners marching to a 20-16 victory behind the tandem of Joe Montana and Jerry Rice. Rice caught 11 passes for a Super Bowl record 215 yards and a touchdown to help the 49ers win their third Super Bowl. Rice would earn Super Bowl MVP honors for his valiant effort during the game.
