(LOT 1741)
Sensational High-Grade Super Bowl Program Run from 1967 to 2022!

SUPER PROGRAMS!!! The idea of the Super Bowl was the brainchild of American Football League commissioner Joe Foss in 1961 to pit the champions of the NFL against the AFL victors. The AFL was the most competitive and the biggest threat to the National Football League since the NFL's 1920 inception, luring players and fans to the upstart league. The "World Playoff" game didn't happen for another six seasons after the 1966 merger of the two leagues and was named the AFL-NFL World Championship Game. It wasn't until 1969 that the "Super Bowl" name was adopted (Super Bowl III). The term stuck, and the game is now one of the most watched sporting events each and every year. At the very first championship game in 1967, approximately 1,000 media passes were issued, including 338 newspapers, whereas today more than 6,000 media members attended from 24 different countries.

The offered run of Super Bowl programs is complete from 1967's AFL-NFL World Championship Game through Super Bowl LVI in 2022. This unbelievably well-preserved, high-grade collection of Super Bowl programs was assembled by a sportswriter who attended every single game, collecting two programs from each and offering the best of the two for this impossibly complete gathering. Each of the first ten programs have been graded by CGC with an average GPA of 8.5 highlighted by the 1967 World Championship Game issue in a CGC 8.0, 1968 World Championship Game in a CGC 8.5 and Super Bowl X graded 9.4 by CGC. Overall, the remaining 57 issues present in similar high-grade NM to NM-MT condition, making this one of the finest Super Bowl program runs we have ever had the pleasure to offer.
