2022 National Treasures Legendary Materials Signature Roger Maris 2/2 BGS 8 NM-MT & BGS 8 AUTO GRADE!
RARE MARIS AUTOGRAPH!!! Roger Maris did a lot of living from the start of his career in professional baseball in 1953 until his untimely death due to non-Hodgkin lymphoma in 1985. Maris's smooth and powerful left-handed swing was evident from the time he stepped to the plate for the Fargo-Moorhead Twins of the Northern League until his final at-bat with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1968. Maris is most recognized for his monumental season in 1961, when he and teammate Mickey Mantle battled to surpass the 34-year-old Babe Ruth home run record of 60, which he broke in the final game of the season. But, during his 12 years in the Majors, Roger cleared the outfield fences 275 times, drove in 850 runs and collected two American League MVPs (1960-61). Due to his passing at the young age of 51, Maris autographs are always at a premium and the offered card is no exception. This 2022 National Treasures Legendary Materials Signatures Booklet displays the Yankees right fielder's signature on a newspaper clipping cut as well as a fragment of his uniform. This 1-of-2 example has been encapsulated by Beckett Grading Services with an 8 NM-MT grade overall. Subgrades are as follows: Centering – 9.5, Edges – 8.5, Corners – 7.5 & Surfaces – 9.
