Roberto Clemente Single-Signed Baseball PSA & JSA LOAs
SINGLE-SIGNED CLEMENTE BALL!!! There are only a handful of right fielders in Major League history that deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Pittsburgh Pirates great Roberto Clemente. Originally signed by the Brooklyn Dodgers, a Montreal Royals affiliate, officials tried to "hide" Clemente so that the Dodgers could draft him first in 1954. But Pittsburgh Pirates scouts and officials saw through the deceit and took Clemente in the November Rule 5 Draft, snatching him from Brooklyn. And what a grab it was! Clemente ultimately played more games in right field than any other player in history and is second in career putouts (4,459) and assists (255). Roberto Clemente was a 15-time NL All-Star, won an astonishing 12 Gold Glove awards, won the World Series in 1960 and 1971, and was named the National League's Most Valuable Player in 1961. But Clemente's altruism was one stat that you cannot find in any record book. That altruism ultimately claimed his life as he worked to assist the Nicaraguan people following a devastating earthquake that rocked the nation on December 23rd, 1972. On December 31st, the plane carrying supplies, humanitarian workers and Clemente crashed, taking all lives on board. Following the horrific incident, Major League Baseball renamed the Commissioner's Award in his honor.
