1966 Topps #15 Funny Rings Checklist PSA 8 NM- MT
Little is known about why Topps decided to include the outrageously interesting and colorful Funny Rings inserts in their 1966 Topps Football set. Perhaps it was to bring more attention to the myriad of diverse non-sport issues that Topps was churning out in the 1960s. Regardless, collectors today are treated (and tormented) by these colorful cardboard treasures that were meant to be punched out along the perforations and bent to fashion a ring that would undoubtably shock the squares that couldn't understand what was happening with younger generations in mid-1960s America. Stranger yet, this odd non-sport issue had a checklist that was necessary to complete any 1966 Topps Football set. Numbered and included, this odd card has been the bane of many high-end set collectors. As with any vintage checklist, many have been marked, rendering them unusable for today's finicky collector. Unfortunately, the 1966 Topps Funny Ring Checklist is more often found to be grossly off-center, again rendering it useless to the modern collector who conforms to the standards set by the increasingly picky grading companies. The offered checklist will likely fill a long empty void for one lucky collector. More interestingly, a complete set of the Funny Ring insert cards is being offered in this very auction.
