1952 Topps #261 Willie Mays PSA 6 EX-MT
SAY HEY KID '52 TOPPS!!! Most baseball historians choose Willie Mays as baseball's greatest all-around player, and why not? He walloped 660 round-trippers, batted over .300 lifetime, stole bases, could snare virtually any batted ball and had a superior throwing arm. His legacy was solidified by his miraculous over the shoulder catch in the deepest confines of the Polo Grounds in the 1954 World Series, and similar to Mickey Mantle, no Mays card (including his '51 Bowman rookie) could possibly surpass the prestige of his 1952 Topps #261 subject. Presented here is an imposing PSA 6 EX-MT '52 Topps depicting a sensational Willie Mays portrait, while emanating brilliant resolution and a splendid array of sparkling hues. While the image does favor the right edge with a slight tilt towards the upper right corner, most collectors agree that a majority of '52 Topps Mays subjects portray skewed illustrations. The remaining highlights include three right-angled corners consistent with any near-mint example, and only the lower right corner reveals some wear, preventing a higher assessment. Relatively clean surfaces are the final compliments for this desirable keepsake that resides as one of the cornerstones of all post-WWII cardboard issues!
