1911 M110 Sporting Life Cabinet Christy Mathewson PSA 1 PR

EXQUISITE MATTY!!! This 1911 M110 Sporing Life Christy Mathewson Cabinet stands as one of Matty's most regal cards. Only six other examples are listed on the PSA Pop Chart, with the rather harsh PSA 1 assessment less prevalent than its far superior aesthetics and simple right to own a copy. Issued by the Sporting Life News Dealer Co., the M110 pastel-hued rarities reveal brilliant artistic illustrations and include only six subjects. By 1911, Mathewson still reigned supreme as our national pastime's greatest pitcher, with his 1910 league-leading 27 wins and microscopic 1.89 ERA prompting the Sporting Life Co. to include him in their prestigious set. An all-time immortal, the Christian Gentlemen's sensational pitching pose was originally struck by renowned photographer Louis Van Oeyen, with no glaring surface blemishes compromising this illustration.

Accounting for the grade are typical corner wear, some modest edge chipping, and several creases, primarily near the upper left and lower right corners. Yet, its fine overall eye appeal coupled with a relatively clean Sporting Life ad verso justify a higher assessment. Aside from Mathewson's 373 wins and amazing 2.13 lifetime ERA, his greatest accomplishment may be his record-setting three shutouts in the 1905 World Series, prompting the iconic Athletics manager Connie Mack to say, "Mathewson is the greatest pitcher I ever saw. It was a pleasure to watch him pitch when he wasn't pitching against you." As one of Matty's finest cardboard issues, we highly advise you to ride this Big Six masterpiece directly to the winner's circle!
