1933 Rittenhouse Candy E285 Babe Ruth King of Clubs - Blue Tint PSA Authentic
RUTH RARITY!!! The Philadelphia-based Rittenhouse Candy Co. issued a 52-subject playing card set in 1933. Extremely rare, this issue includes 46 individual players, of whom six were issued multiple cards. The different colors include red, orange, blue and green, with the set's most valuable subject being Babe Ruth. Presented here is the Bambino's blue tint "King of Clubs" in a PSA Authentic holder, one of only 13 total PSA examples. A PSA Authentic "King of Clubs" sold for $4K in December 2021, justifying this card's extreme rarity. Revealing a blue-tinted Ruth portrait within the centrally positioned clubs image, the Authentic assessment is due to a manual edge trim, with Ruth's image still emanating fine aesthetics despite the scattered heavy toning and soiling. The flipside reveals the letter "Y" that was part of a prize redemption promotion to spell out "RITTENHOUSE CANDY CO.", whereby those respective cards would be exchanged for a toy premium.
