(LOT 27)
1920 W516-1-2 #1 Babe Ruth Hand Cut PSA 3 VG – POP 1; Only One PSA Example Graded Higher!

POP 1 1920 RUTH!! The 1920 campaign would see the Sultan of Swat take the Big Apple by storm, walloping a record 54 dingers, and as a grand memento from Ruth's inaugural Yankee season, presented here is one of his first Yankee cards ever issued, a super-eye-pleasing PSA 3 VG 1920 W516-1-2 hand-cut strip card. The SOLE example at this plateau, only a single PSA 4 copy is graded higher! It's no secret that 1920 Ruth collectibles are achieving record-setting prices, and other than the Bambino's ultra-rare 1920 Headin' Home cards, a few "W" strip issues and his M101-6 Felix Mendelsohn subject, there are simply no other 1920 Babe Ruth cards to choose from. The classic right-handed throwing image retains a majority of its original aesthetics, and while a lower right quadrant crease as well as even corner wear account for the grade, it's the 1920 Babe Ruth issue date that steals the show!
