1952 Red Man Tobacco #23 Ted Williams w/Tab PSA 8 NM-MT – Only 2 PSA Examples Graded Higher!
TEDDY BALLGAME!!!... The true embodiment of a National hero, Ted Williams not only stole the hearts of avid baseball fans via his unparalleled batting skill sets, but by also being a courageous fighter pilot in two major wars. In early 1952, after playing in only six games, the Splendid Splinter hung up his baseball cleats in exchange for U.S. military flannels, joining American forces in the Korean War. Via his off the charts uncanny eyesight, Williams shot down 16 enemy aircraft before ultimately returning to the baseball diamond before the end of the 1953 campaign. Having missed nearly two full seasons, Teddy Ballgame also missed out on the opportunity to have his picture placed on any 1952-'53 Topps or Bowman baseball cards, much to the chagrin of his collecting fan base.
Fortunately for hobbyists, the Red Man Tobacco 52-card set issued in 1952 did include Ted as one of their 52 subjects. Presented here just happens to be a breathtaking PSA 8 NM-MT Red Man Tobacco #23 Williams with Tab that, along with nine other specimens, has only been bested by a paltry two PSA examples! The imposing Williams lithographic image reveals The Kid with his classic lumber resting against Ted's left shoulder, as he exhibits a vibrant smile for the card's captivated viewers. A dark green setting brings the timeless pose to life, and the razor-sharp perimeter includes four pinpoint corners. Final exclamation points are the original tab affixed to the lower edge and pack-fresh surfaces, with this highly coveted '52 Red Man Tobacco Ted Williams being his only 1952 mainstream issue!
