OBSCURE RUTH!!!... One of Babe Ruth's most eclectic issues is his 1939 African Tobacco World of Sport #34 subject, presented here in a stellar PSA 3 VG. Issued some four years after Ruth announced his official retirement in June 1935, its super popularity stems from the imposing Ruthian batting image depicting this giant of a man watching another baseball sail towards the grandstands during batting practice. This particular example reveals near-perfect centering between four modestly toned borders, with even corner wear and a faint wrinkle accounting for the rather harsh assessment. The final superlative is the brief Ruth bio on the verso written in both English and Afrikaans languages, with the classic Ruth illustration the highlight of this rather sparse issue!
