1956 Topps #107 Ed Mathews Gray Back PSA 9 MINT – Only One PSA Example Graded Higher!
MINT MATHEWS!!!... PSA has currently encapsulated 2,400+ Ed Mathews 1956 Topps #107 "Gray Back" examples, with only a single specimen besting this remarkable PSA 9 MINT offering! Finding MINT cards that were issued some 67 years ago is no easy task, especially when they represent one of our National Pastime's greatest Hall of Fame third sackers. A prestigious member of the 500-homer club, Mathews was the undisputed finest third baseman of his generation. The nine-time all-star belted 512 lifetime dingers, and until the great Mike Schmidt came along, Mathews was generally considered the greatest third sacker of all-time.
The '56 campaign would be another stellar season for the legendary Mathews, with Eddie belting 37 round-trippers, knocking in 95 runs, and posting a superb .892 OPS, meriting him a third All-Star game appearance. Likewise, this pack-fresh offering also reveals All-Star qualities, starting with the two imposing images of the bygone third baseman. Both the portrait and sliding poses are immaculate and emanate a splendid array of vibrant hues, with the action illustration revealing Mathews revered #41 uniform that was eventually retired after he hung up his cleats in 1968. Near-perfect centering, sharp right-angled corners, bright white borders, and pack-fresh surfaces that all combine to substantiate the exalted "9 MINT" assessment!
