(LOT 100)
1954 Bowman Football 5-Cent Wax Pack Box Including 14 of the Original 24 Packs

RARE-RARE-RARE!!!... The 1954 Bowman Football set was a monumental gridiron release and the second to last issue produced by the famed Bowman Gum Company. The 128-card set was issued in four series of 32 cards each with individual 5-cent packs housing seven cards and a stick of gum. (Penny packs were also produced holding a single card each.) However, 5-cent packs were much more difficult to come by and averaged one Hall of Famer to every five cards. There are more than two dozen Hall of Famers (26) in the set and multiple short prints. The Hall of Famers are anchored by rookies of George Blanda and Doug Atkins as well as Norm Van Brocklin, Otto Graham, Doak Walker, Bobby Layne, Chuck Bednarik and Charlie Conerly, among so many others. Rookie Johnny Lattner, the final card in the set, is also a coveted rarity as it is often sensitive to storage damage, rubber bands and surface abrasions typical with so many first and last cards of an issue.

Offered here is a super rare and brilliantly colorful 1954 Bowman Football 5-cent box housing 14 of the original 24 seven card packs included within. Though the box shows moderate wear at the edges and corners and displays minor separation due to adhesive deterioration, the box remains full intact, including the pop-up folding lid utilized for display. Still boasting vibrant green, gold and brown hues, the 1954 Bowman Football boxes do not come up for sale too frequently, due to the rarity and desirability of this issue, making this intact box one for the finest collection. Given the fact that 5-cent wax packs maintain their original bold colors, despite some edge wear showing on some of the packs, being in the presence of this box makes you feel as though your time machine just dropped you off at a candy store nearly 70 years ago and the box of Football cards on the counter still holds 14 of the 24 original packs. The nostalgia factor coupled with rarity creates instant upside potential with this offering. Memory Lane is proud to offer this extreme rarity surely destined for the best of unopened collections.
