1932 U.S. Caramel #14 Ty Cobb PSA 8 NM-MT

PACK-FRESH COBB!!!... This truly magnificent PSA 8 NM-MT 1932 U.S. Caramel Ty Cobb subject has only been bested by three PSA copies, joining forces with eleven other PSA 8s as one of the finest preserved examples on the planet! Seldom surfacing in high-grade, the U.S. Caramel #14 Cobb (along with his '33 Sport Kings issue) arguably resides as his most coveted post-playing days issue. Conceptually similar to the 1933 Goudey Sport Kings set, the 1932 U.S. Caramel compilation issued several non-baseball sports figures (five of the 32 subjects were boxers/golfers with the remaining 27 being baseball stars). Similar with most pre-war issues, along with the incomparable Babe Ruth, the legendary Ty Cobb subject prevails as one of the two most coveted and valuable cards in the set. At the time this was written, PSA had only encapsulated 92 caramel Cobbs, with only 16% revealing an assessment of "8" or higher. Issued four years after he played his final MLB game with Connie Mack's Athletics in 1928, the U.S. Caramel subject portrays an imposing "bust" Tyrus image depicting him in his final Philadelphia Athletics flannels and cap, with the front of the card also listing a possibly unique TYRUS (TY) COBB name.

That final season in the City of Brotherly Love, Cobb would post a .323 batting average, the 23rd consecutive year he would surpass the exalted .300 mark (his inaugural 1905 season he would bat only .238). Twelve of those campaigns, Ty would capture the AL batting crown including nine consecutive years (1907-15), more than substantiating why the baseball writers of American chose him as one of the fives original 1936 HOF Charter Members. Synonymous with his world-class feats is this remarkable PSA 8 offering that exhibits a near-perfectly centered classic Cobb portrait pose, set against a flawless bold red background. A majority of the original factory-issued attributes have remained intact including razor sharp edging, pinpoint corners, pack-fresh surfaces and the absence of any glaring flaws. For full disclosure, the only blemish worthy of mention is some faint toning on the verso that is rendered virtually negligible versus the card's breathtaking aesthetics. One of the Georgia Peach's most extraordinary cardboard heirlooms, it serves as a sheer reminder of how the immortal Tyrus Raymond Cobb dominated the baseball diamond for 24 years, with his unprecedented batting titles and unparalleled fiery play surely destined to echo for eternity!
