(LOT 1790)
Group of (11) Different Autographed 1939 "Centennial of Baseball" US Postage Stamps - All PSA Encapsulated Authentic Including: Landis, Mack, McCarthy, Gomez, Ruffing and More

On June 12, 1939, the quaint little townlet of Cooperstown, New York, welcomed more than 20,000 fans, players and executives of Major League Baseball to celebrate the game's centennial anniversary. Entitled the "Cavalcade of Baseball", baseball enthusiasts and tourists traveled to Upstate New York to witness the christening of the National Baseball Hall of Fame. The event was commemorated by numerous events including the introduction of the inaugural class of Hall of Famers Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson, the late Christy Mathewson, Babe Ruth and Honus Wagner. Dozens of souvenirs and baubles were produced to celebrate the event including the offered collection of 11 "Centennial of Baseball – United States Postage" stamps, each signed by a baseball legend in black fountain pen. These incredible PSA encapsulated keepsakes feature the signatures of Kenesaw Landis (MLB Commissioner), Connie Mack (Philadelphia Owner/Manager), Lefty Gomez, Joe McCarthy, Frank Crosetti, Bump Hadley, Chas "Red" Ruffing - 1939, Babe Dahlgren, Johnny Murphy, George Selkirk (lightly faded) and Steve Sundra. Each stamp is encased Authentic by PSA with signatures boldly scripted across the face at "9-10" strength. This is a remarkable array of commemorative stamps honoring the 100-year anniversary of our National Pastime.
