(LOT 1775)
Jacob Ruppert, Ed Barrow & Johnny Grabowski Thrice-Signed Payroll Check - September 30, 1927 - PSA-Encapsulated Authentic

In 1927, Johnny Grabowski shared catching duties with Benny Bengough and Pat Collins on the greatest team in Major League Baseball history. As part of Murderers' Row, he batted .277 with four home runs while posting a .984 fielding percentage behind the plate. Offered here is a payroll check from The American League Baseball Club of New York, Inc. signed by Yankees owner Jacob Ruppert in deep black fountain pen ("9") on the "President" signature line and endorsed by John Grabowski on the reverse ("8") within the endorsement punch holes at center. This $518.31 payroll check, dated September 30, 1927, indicates the "Balance of salary in full payment of season – 1927". At left on this salary check is the signature of fellow New York Yankees executive Ed Barrow ("8-9"), listed as SEC'Y & TREAS." beneath his autograph. This rare payroll check would make an excellent addition to any Yankees autograph collection.
