1954 Topps #205 Johnny Sain PSA 10 GEM MINT – "POP 2"; Highest Graded PSA Example!
"Spahn and Sain and Pray for Rain!" This truly classic baseball slogan was a consolidated version of Gerald V. Hern's original poem published in the Boson Post on September 14, 1948. Both Sain and Spahn were the aces of the Boston Braves otherwise maligned pitching staff, with Sain winning a career high 24 games in the '48 campaign while tallying 315 innings pitched. From 1946-1950, Sain would win 20 or more games on four occasions, ultimately winning two world championships with the Yankees in 1952 and 1953.
Ironically, this amazing PSA 10 GEM MINT 1954 Topps #205 Sain marvel likewise merits the highest championship caliber, joining only a single other example on the PSA Pop Chart as the finest of its kind! Sain's portrait image and pitching pose both reflect remarkable clarity, set against a super imposing lime green background. The well-centered illustration resides between four bright white borders, with factory issued somewhat rough cuts to both the right and left edges ending at four right-angled corners. The final exclamation points are the immaculate surfaces, with all of the aforementioned pack-fresh qualities supporting the ultra-rare 10 assessment!
