Fresh off the heels of his first National League batting crown in 1961, Roberto Clemente would post another formidable mark in 1962, batting .312 while also capturing his second Gold Glove Award. The star right-fielder with the "cannon-like" throwing arm was now one of the finest outfielders in the game, joining the likes of Mays, Aaron, Mantle, F. Robinson, Maris, and Kaline. The prestigious Topps Chewing Gum Company issued a highly coveted image of Roberto on his 1962 #10 subject, capturing the immortal Clemente in a classic batting stance while offering a modest grin.
Although PSA's card graders have handled over 4,500 examples, unfortunately for autograph collectors, the renowned authentication company has only encapsulated a paltry three signed examples. One of those ultra-rarities is presented here, with the somewhat light "Roberto Clemente" signature situated across his classic Pittsburgh Pirates home flannels and reflecting a PSA 3 VG grade. True, while the autograph assessment is low, this is the perfect scenario whereby the "right to own a copy" far surpasses the overall signature strength. Fortunately, the card itself reveals fine "VG" aesthetics, with the extremely well-centered image eluding any obtrusive blemishes. The wood-grain borders have atypically retained a majority of their original surface finish, and the even corner wear provides a somewhat eye pleasing uniformity. One of the scarcest signed Clemente cards extant, its elusive PSA "Pop 3" count substantiates its rightful place in any world-class autograph gathering!
