(LOT 1928)
1934 R310 Butterfinger Near Complete Set 64/66 with Original Mailing Envelope and Both Foxx Variations

NEAR-SET!!! The 1934 R310 Butterfinger set features 65 of baseball's great players from the era and stands as one of the larger premium sets from the 1930s. The black-and-white 8" x 10" photo was distributed with every Butterfinger candy bar for a total of 65 different ballplayers. Printed on extremely thin paper stock, this set often succumbs to edge and corner tearing, but also pinholes from fans displaying them on bedroom walls. The offered is a near-set likely maintained in its original mailing envelope for the last 80 years. 28 Hall of Famers dominate the desirability with Foxx, Ott, Hornsby, Dean (VG), Dickey, Gehringer, Gomez, Frisch, etc. with Walter Johnson and Jimmie Foxx (2) as low-grade examples. Missing only Ruth & Gehrig (Lots 217 & 218 in this Auction) to be complete, but this is one to consider. Many of these reveal expected tiny dings or separations at the extreme edges or corners. There are two Jimmie Foxx issues, one is Foxx and the other is Fox. Given the recent incredulously harsh professional grading standards, we surmise these would grade from 3-5. Very fragile - seldom seen in this condition.
