(LOT 1310)
c.1968 Bob Gibson 8" x 10" Original Type 1 Malcolm Emmons Photo - PSA Encapsulated

Labeled the "Year of the Pitcher", 1968 was one of the most significant seasons in post-WWII history, forever changing the game of baseball. Detroit Tigers Denny McLain became the first pitcher since Dizzy Dean in 1934 to win more than 30 games as he went 31-4. On the National League side, St. Louis Cardinals ace Bob Gibson set the modern-day ERA record with a minute 1.12 mark that has yet, and isn't likely, to be surpassed. It was the only year that two pitchers claimed MVP Awards in each league. Because of the sheer dominance pitchers held over batters, the mound was lowered and the strike-zone reverted back to its original pre-1963 size (between top of the batter's shoulder and their knees). Offered is an original c. 1968 Malcolm Emmons Type 1 photograph of Gibson, mid-windup, ready to deliver one of his blazing fastballs. This delightful black-and-white image has been encased Authentic by PSA. The 53-year-old Malcolm Emmons photograph shows minimal signs of wear with only light creasing at the corners and slight toning along the borders. What a great photo of one of the best to ever toe the rubber. This man literally changed the game!
