(LOT 1307)
1960 Mickey Mantle PSA Type 1 Encapsulated United Press International Photo Proof - Measures Approx. 7" x 9"

Heading into the 1960s, the iconic Mickey Mantle had already established himself as one of baseball's greatest players with his Goliath-like power that produced a prodigious number of tape-measure homers testing the confines of any ballpark. Once again, Mantle would not disappoint the "Big-Apple" faithful in 1960 with his 40 round-trippers and .957 OPS pacing the Junior Circuit. His stellar campaign would lead the Yankees back to the Fall Classic against the Pittsburgh Pirates, with the Bronx Bombers unfortunately losing the series in game seven via Bill Mazeroski's legendary "walk-off" solo homer. This sparkling PSA Type 1 photo proof portrays "The Mick" depicting a candid smile while holding four colossal bats, with the image taken by United Press International on March 11, 1960, the day Mantle signed his 1960 contract. Measuring some 7" x 9" and reflecting a blank verso, the upper captions boldly reads: "3/11/60; ST. Petersburgh, FLA., Displaying his huge forearm and a radiant smile, happy Yankee slugger, Mickey Mantle poses with his tools of the craft shortly after he signed his 1960 contract today, 3/11." While the upper border does reveal some spider-creasing, the captivating central poise has remained primarily unscathed, with this super rare Type 1 "Proof" destined to be a centerpiece attraction in any advanced Commerce Comet gathering!
