1944 Original Type 1 George Dorrill 8" x 10" World Champion St. Louis Cardinals Photograph - PSA Encapsulated
The 1944 World Series was yet another crosstown rivalry, though this Fall Classic didn't occur in the Big Apple, but rather the Gateway City. The National League pennant winning St. Louis Cardinals faced the Browns of the American League, their first and only World Series appearance before relocating to Baltimore. Superior hitting and fielding by the Cardinals proved to be keys to the Redbirds four-games-to-two victory as they batted 0.057 points higher than the Browns and committed only one error to the Browns ten blunders. Offered is an 8" x 10" original Type 1 photograph from legendary St. Louis photographer George Dorrill featuring the World Champion Cardinals. Marked "St. Louis Cardinals ... 1944" at the bottom in white ink as well as "Geo. Dorrill Photo" and "© The Sporting News Pub. Co." also printed at the bottom in white. The PSA Authentic encapsulated photo remains in superb condition with little to no signs of aging. A light streak is visible at bottom right, likely from cleaning photo notations, but no other defects are evident throughout. The reverse is equally clean and snow-white with no visible flaws.
