(LOT 1280)
1939 New York Yankees World Championship PSA Type 1 Photo Including Lou Gehrig - Matted & Framed - Photo Measures Approx. 8" x 10" - Full PSA Type 1 LOA

The 1939 season would see the legendary New York Yankees win their fourth consecutive World Championship as they posted 106 wins, finishing 17 games ahead of their rival Boston Red Sox and then sweeping the overmatched Cincinnati Reds in the Fall Classic. This spectacular 8" x 10" 1939 team photo has been professionally matted & framed and includes a PSA Type 1 LOA for ironclad authenticity. Taken AFTER the Yankees claimed their '39 Championship, the image includes a total of 30 individuals including players, coaches, trainer and bat boy, with the two most significant legends being "Joltin' Joe" DiMaggio (top row - 3rd from left) and Henry Louis Gehrig (middle row - 4th from left). Photo has not been glued into the matt or frame.

Additional Hall of Famers on this remarkable squad included Bill Dickey, Joe Gordon, Red Ruffing, Lefty Gomez and manager Joe McCarthy. As a final superlative, the classic illustration includes a bold white caption along the lower region reading: "1939 WORLD'S SERIES CHAMPIONS - the only team ever to win four world's championships in succession". Yet, when all is said and done, the Yankees 1939 World Series title would stand second tier to the earth-shattering story of immortal first sacker Lou Gehrig succumbing to the horrific deterioration from the deadly ALS disease that would ultimately claim his life only two years later. Indeed, for on July 4, 1939, Gehrig would deliver his iconic "Luckiest Man on the Face of the Earth" speech before a packed house at Yankee Stadium, in arguably the most enduring and traumatic event in the annals of sports. A Cooperstown worthy offering to say the least, this well-preserved Type 1 keepsake turns back the clock to an era when the Bronx Bombers continued their MLB dominance in relentless fashion, with the classic image ominously representing the "Iron Horse's" final appearance on a Yankees team photo!
