(LOT 1250)
c. 1920s Original Type 1 Rogers Hornsby 5-1/2"x7-1/2" Fotograms News Service Photograph - PSA Encapsulated

We would be hard-pressed to find ANYONE who can attest, as an eyewitness, to the superb hitting ability of Rogers Hornsby. And though many St. Louis Cardinals fans think themselves students of the game, few can describe Hornsby amazing talent or even speak about the legendary second baseman honored on the left field wall. With all due respect to Babe Ruth, Hornsby was considered the greatest hitter of the 1920s as he led the National League in hitting seven times including six straight (1920-25). His .424 batting average from 1924 still stands as the highest NL batting average, one of the records that undoubtedly will never be broken.

His .358 career batting average is second only to Ty Cobb's .366 in Major League Baseball history. Offered here is an incredible original Type 1 photograph of a youthful Rogers Hornsby from the 1920s. This PSA encapsulated 5-1/2" x 7-1/2" Fotograms new service portrait shows a young man ready (as always) for the game to begin so he can terrorize opposing pitchers. This borderless beauty remains virtually flawless with sharp corners and edges. Only the slightest number of surface abrasions are present though nothing detracts from this striking image. On the back is a portion of a paper caption, affixed with Scotch tape, and the FOTOGRAMS stamping. There also appears an encircled notation (#122) and Hornsby in black ink. This is a tremendous portrait of Hornsby from the Roaring '20s.
