(LOT 202)
1909 T206 John Hummel Rare Sovereign 460/25 Back PSA 8 NM-MT

UTILITY HUMMEL!!! For much of his career, John Hummel served as a utility player for the Brooklyn Superbas/Robins. With only a .254 career batting average, it is more likely that his .969 fielding percentage kept him in the lineup as a defensive replacement. But, he did hit 29 home runs during the Dead-Ball era accounting for some power. Offered here is his similarly powerful 1909 T206 John Hummel Rare Sovereign 460/25 Back graded 8 NM-MT by PSA. This rare back card, according to the Pop Report, has only 34 examples encased by PSA with this residing as one of the highest graded.

It is matched by only one other copy with a single example graded at a half-grade higher. As has been the case for more than 110 years, the T206 is one of the most desirable sets that the hobby has to offer and high-end cards are at a premium both in demand and pricing. This rare Sovereign backed Hummel issue still appears pack-fresh with many of the original attributes visible such as superb centering, bright & vibrant colors, virtually no surface flaws (front or back) and a reverse that appears just printed. This amazing example of Brooklyn's Hummel is exceptional in every way. An absolute home run!
