(LOT 58)
Extremely Rare 1952 Topps #146 Signed Frank House with the Ultra-Scarce "Yellow Tigers Logo" (as Opposed to the Standard "Orange Logo" - PSA 4 VG-EX Card Grade; PSA AUTH Auto

Deceased: 2005; Grade Pop: 3; Pop Higher: 0; Total Pop: 12
Presented here is one of the rarest signed 1952 Topps subjects, a PSA 2.5 autographed Frank House #146 specimen that just happens to include the seldom seen "Yellow Tiger Logo" in the lower left quadrant (as opposed to the correct and more common "Orange Tigers Logo). It is no secret that the iconic 1952 Topps set is the "Holy Grail" of ALL post-war sets, compiling a 407 "Basic" Set checklist and 553 "Master Set" (as recognized by PSA) that includes all printing and back color variations/error cards. Yet, as is always the case for any baseball card issue, the book is never fully closed on the possibility of additional 1952 Topps variations surfacing within the hobby.

Simply stated, that 553 card Master Set tally will always be subject for revision, and coincidently, the Frank House #146 "Yellow Logo" variation card presented here may just be the subject to ultimately nudge the Master Set listing to 554. For quite some time, the collecting community has pondered the merited standing of the 1952 Topps "Yellow Logo" variation Frank House with regard to officially placing it as an additional Master Set subject. Even the legendary late SCD Catalog editor Bob Lemke wrote several informative blogs regarding its true place in the hobby as a 1952 Topps variation/error card.

It was Lemke's opinion, as well as a seemingly countless number of other advanced '52 Topps enthusiasts, that the Topps color-strippers in the prepress department inadvertently did not add red ink to the yellow tiger emblem, resulting in this "Yellow" variation. Assumingly, after a short period of time, the inadvertent color mishap was found and corrected, with the revised version now reflecting the originally intended "Orange Tigers Logo". While the Master Listing has yet to be updated to include this "Yellow Logo" variation, we cannot imagine this change eventually taking place and why not? Simply stated, there are a myriad of other printing/color errors within this landmark set including the heralded "Campos Black Star" subject, justifying why it does not seem reasonable to continue excluding the Frank House "Yellow Logo" variation as an official Master Set subject.

That said, this PSA 4 scripted Frank House offering currently stands as a "Pop 3" highest graded example with only 12 total PSA authenticated copies. However, since PSA has yet to make a distinguishment between the "Orange" and "Yellow" Tigers Logo on their Population Report, those "Pop" figures reflect the COMBINED count of both color variations. Obviously, a majority of those 12 examples reflect the corrected "Orange Logo", and we can only assume only a handful of the autographed Frank House '52 Topps subjects possibly include a "Yellow Tigers Logo", placing this bona fide rarity as one of the toughest signed '52 Topps subjects extant!
