LA Memorial Sports Arena Multi-Signed Grand Opening Souvenir Program from July 4th, 1959 with Nixon, Weissmuller, Fears and Dozens More! - PSA/DNA LOA

GRAND OPENING!!! Celebrating our country's Independence Day, the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena opened its doors for the first time to the public and a host of dozens of professional athletes as well as one dignitary. Shortly before his unsuccessful presidential run against the youthful John F. Kennedy of Massachusetts, Los Angeles native Richard Nixon joined California sports in welcoming this new venue for indoor events. Offered here is a program from that opening day celebration featuring 42 signatures of sports figures from all walks and a bold "Dick Nixon" signed in blue (8-9) across the sky. Primarily signed in blue, star and athlete signatures line the front above the arena image and in columns on the reverse. Notable names include former Olympic Track & Field coach Dean Cromwell; Major League Baseball players Jigger Statz, Johnny Lindell and Babe Herman; NFL Hall of Famer Tom Fears and Kenny Washington – the first African-American to sign with an NFL team and Olympic swimmer and former actor Johnny Weissmuller. The program, offered directly from the Statz collection, remains in excellent condition with little wear and no tearing or and obtrusive surface abrasions.
