(LOT 2110)
1903 W601 Sporting Life Team Composite 10-1/2" x 13-1/2" Brooklyn NL

The Brooklyn Superbas finished the season fifth behind the National League Pennant winning Pittsburgh Pirates who finished the 1903 campaign 19 games ahead of the Superbas. The middle-of the pack Brooklyn squad posted a respectable 70-66-3 record, but were no match for the Pirates team led by Hall of Famers Fred Clarke and Honus Wagner. That year, Sporting Life produced team composite displays of many of the Major League teams, including the Superbas, featuring the manager at center surrounded by player portraits. These composites were issued both individually as well as part of a bound publication. Offered is one such composite of the NL's Brooklyn squad that includes: Oscar Jones, Ned Garvin, Henry Schmidt, Fred Jacklitsch, Bill Reidy, Lew Ritter, Jack Doyle, Tim Flood, Sammy Strang, Bill Dahlen, Jimmy Sheckard, John Dobbs, Doc Gessler, Dutch Jordan and Manager Ned Hanlon. Presenting in excellent condition overall, this 10-1/2" x 13-1/2"page appears to have been removed from one of the original volumes, showing signs of removal. While most spiral binding holes remain intact, the upper left shows minimal tearing though no damage obscures the more than 115-year-old composite. Minimal toning and aging are also visible.
