(LOT 2054)
1937 Championship Season New York Yankees Team Signed Official A.L. Harridge Baseball (26 Signatures) w/Lou Gehrig on the Sweet Spot - Full JSA/James Spence LOA

This imposing 1937 New York Yankees team signed Official A.L. Will Harridge horsehide sphere has been signed by none other than Lou Gehrig. Scripted by the "Iron Horse" in blue fountain pen on the critical sweet spot, Lou's iconic signature is joined by fellow Cooperstown inductees Tony Lazzeri (east panel); Chas "Red" Ruffing (north panel); Earle Combs (south panel); and two Bill Dickey scripts (east & west panels). Additional notable scripts include J. Broaca, J. Murphy, R. Rolfe, J. Powell and B. Hadley. Of the total 26 signatures, six have been deemed "clubhouse" autographs including A. Fletcher, manager Joe McCarthy, Lefty Gomez, Joe DiMaggio, P. Malone and M. Person. Of utmost significance, however, is the momentous "Lou Gehrig" script that reveals "6-7" strength and has been isolated on the sweet spot, with most post-1935 baseballs revealing Gehrig's sweet spot signature co-existing with manager Joe McCarthy.

Furthermore, the ball itself reveals fine 6-7 strength, with its horsehide surface, tightly wound red stitching, and bold blue official stampings eluding any serious flaws. After Babe Ruth's departure from the "Big Apple", immortal Yankees team captain Henry Louis Gehrig would lead the Yankees to three consecutive world championships from 1936 through 1938, with the '39 campaign seeing Gehrig stricken early in the season by the ultimately fatal ALS disease. Regarding the 1937 campaign, the Yankees would win the A.L. Pennant by a whopping 13 games over second-place Detroit via their 102-52 record, moving on to best their cross-river N.Y. Giants rivals in the Fall Classic for their second consecutive championship. Gehrig, Bill Dickey and second-year sensation "Joltin' Joe" DiMaggio were the Yankee kingpins, combining for an incredible 112 homers and 456 R.B.I.s. A classic N.Y. Yankees and Lou Gehrig memento, it conjures up vivid memories of how baseball's greatest all-time first sacker dominated our National Pastime as good or better than any player who ever graced an MLB batter's box!
