(LOT 1496)
1953 Bowman Color #57 Lou Boudreau PSA 10 GEM MINT – 'POP 2"; Highest Graded PSA Example!

Of the nearly 600 PSA encapsulated Lou Boudreau 1953 Bowman color examples, a paltry two specimens have managed to achieve the perfect "10 GEM MINT" assessment. Indeed, only a fractional 0.3% can boast the pinnacle of grading success, with one of those two highly coveted examples now available for the taking. Hall of Famer Lou Boudreau played 15 seasons, primarily with the Cleveland Indians, with this slick-fielding shortstop also managing to compile a formidable .295 lifetime batting average. During his final campaign with the BoSox in 1952, he assumed their managerial position, having already been a player/manager with the Indians for nine seasons. An eight-time all-star, Boudreau's accolades include capturing the 1944 American League batting title, and earning the A.L. MVP Award in 1948 when he led Cleveland to their inaugural World Series title. Likewise, this unfathomable offering depicts championship caliber via its impeccable attributes, commencing with an awe-inspiring Boudreau "bending on one knee" image as he appears to be assuming his managerial duties from the Red Sox dugout. Donning his classic Boston road-gray flannels, the illustration is extremely well-centered between four bright white borders, with both the front and back immaculate surfaces eluding any noticeable blemishes. Blistering sharp right-angled corners, a gleaming obverse side surface, and an array of sparkling hues complete this timeless marvel that proudly joins only a single other example as the only two PSA 10 gems!
