(LOT 652)
– "Unique for the Grade" 1954 Bowman #102 Billy Pierce PSA 10 GEM MINT – "POP 1": The SOLE Highest Graded Example!

Left-handed twirler Billy Pierce spent most of his 18-year MLB career in the "Windy City", pitching 13 seasons with the White Sox. The crafty southpaw won 211 games, was a two-time 20 game winner (1956 & '57), and in 1955 led the Junior Circuit with a microscopic 1.97 E.R.A. Ironically, for all of his celebrated success, the seven-time All-Star claimed his only World Series title in 1945 via a brief rookie stint with the Detroit Tigers, pitching only ten innings. As a grand testament for his impressive legacy, this "unique for the grade" PSA 10 GEM MINT 1954 Bowman offering that just happens to stand as the one and only example at this pinnacle plateau! Standing at the peak of the illustrious PSA "Pop Chart", its sanctified "10" assessment has managed to elude 300+ of the other inferior PSA encapsulated copies. His representation on this 68-year-old gem is nothing short of remarkable, starting with the classic "half-body" bust pose as Pierce showcases his legendary Chicago White-Sox flannels. The extremely well-centered image reveals brilliant hues, blinding white borders, pinpoint corners, and impeccable surfaces, with all of these magnificent qualities coming together to substantiate the "one of a kind" grade!
